Kart Racing Thailand: The SKT R1 Race Report

E-mail Print PDF

Where else? ...

ImageWhere can you find a CIK-class karting racetrack with a lake on the side and, on the horizon, a Buddhist temple and a giant statue of Buddha? Answer: At the S.C. Motorsports circuit in Saraburi, Thailand.

Where do you get a warm welcome from your hosts and spend a weekend in a family atmosphere: at the same track thanks to the Vongprai family.

Where can you meet a race organizer who goes to the track, examines every curve to check if some more cleaning is needed, so that his younger racers can drive safely? Where you will also find a warm and smiling organizing committee led by a team of charming young ladies? At the SKT race 1 thanks to Khun Kitti.

ImageAnd where could you see hard fought races in almost all categories, with last minute surprises: At Saraburi last weekend during the first round of the SKT championship.

As you can see I enjoyed my weekend, even though taking pictures when the track temperature is above 40 degrees, is somewhat demanding (temperature over the weekend reached 36 to 37 degrees in the shade). Congratulations to Nanin, Guy Koh and Khun Praewphan for competing in two races on that very hot day.

ImageLet's have a look at the results.

Comer: Khun Veravich added a victory to his young palmares, followed by Mickey and Kris. Check the podium pics in the gallery section, these kids are so young but they already go so fast.

Mini Rok: It was Miss Praewphan who won Heat 1, but Khun Petch took the better in heat 2 and won the final, resisting Khun Praewphan attacks. Third was Khun Khanitin (Big) to complete a familiar podium in this class.

Rok Junior: It should have been Khun Kittitat Vongprai and Khun Pattarapol Vongprai 1st and second (as in heat1 and heat 2) but Sandy disagreed and successfully attacked Pattarapol one lap before the finish to win a second position on the podium. See the pictures in the gallery section. One of the most interesting race of the weekend, with the top three contenders never very far from one another. And a superb race by Miss Athirat who finished 4th but was very close to the 3 champions, keep on the good job Khun Athirat so that I can take your picture at the highest step of the podium.

Rok: Same scenario here with Nanin containing Jonathan, the two followed by Guy Koh in heat1, heat2 and the final. That is to say until the last curve of the final's last lap. Nanin was so busy containing Jonathan and Jonathan so eager to pass him, that the two got entangled for a brief moment , slowed down, and were passed on the line by Guy Koh! See the gallery section for the pictures. Everybody was smiling on the podium, Guy Koh because he won, Nanin because he found a new potential contestant to his supremacy in Jonathan, Jonathan because, in his first race in the Rok class, he demonstrated that a first win was at hand.

Formula A: Khun Nanin, followed by Guy Koh and Khun Rapee.

Formula B: Jukka did better than Kimi and was back at the top, followed by a delighted Khun Panya and Khun Poonpun.

As you will see on the podium pictures everybody was happy to hold their trophy, a beautiful steering wheel which replaced the traditional cup. A very good idea from Khun Kitti.

We are awaiting the official results of the Cadet Class race which were withheld, pending ... decisions.
